WHY WE GROW STRABERRIES?

Why we grow strawberries? Is it just because the taste good? There are many reasons to grow strawberries, and in your aquaponics systems they will flourish year around.

Strawberries are a sweet, delicious fruit that are also a nutritional powerhouse and an all around amazing super-food. They are rich in antioxidants which boosts their ability to rebuild, repair, and rejuvenate the body. They also have high levels of phenols, which act as an anti-inflammatory for illness such as asthma, arthritis, PMS, & autoimmune disorders. Loaded with Vitamin C they help to boost the immune system by warding off colds, flu’s, and infections. They are also well known for improving eye sight and skin elasticity. Strawberries contain ellagic acid and flavonoids which are good for the heart and help to lower cholesterol. During the summertime, look for locally grown strawberries for the most nutritional and health benefits. Organic frozen strawberries are also a good alternative when fresh are not available. Strawberries are an excellent addition to smoothies, fruit salads, and mixed green salads and they are the perfect snack anytime of the day.
You can grow these wonderful plants in your AP grow beds, hanging pots in soil, hanging pots with GB media with a drip system setup, in grow towers full of GB media with a drip system set up(very  popular) or directly in the ground and use your AP system water to feed the plants. Not only will you keep yourself and your loved ones full of strawberries but you will help keep them healthy at the same time with this simple to grow plant.

Below are three of our small starter strawberry plants in one of or GB’s were the media is lava rock. They are the three plants on the bottom right. We plant Quinault Strawberries, they are ever bearing and can take very cold temps along with very high temps. We have had 6″ of snow on top of the plants before in pots, with fruit on the plant, the plant did fine and the fruit was not damaged.
This is by far my favorite strawberry plant.
